Secondary Ag/AgCl Pseudo-Reference Electrode on Silicon Substrate

Abstract: Amperometric analysis systems with two or three require a potential of reference electrode stable in function of time. In this work we developed an Ag/AgCl pseudo-reference onto gold film on silicon substrate. The amperometric electrodeposition method utilized (constant potential) provided a uniform deposited film and a controlled process characterization. It allows us to obtain electrodes with excellent performance during fourteen consecutives day. The characterization in function of the chloride concentratio… Show more

“…A pseudo-reference Ag/AgCl electrode was fabricated on the gold reference electrode patterned on a glass chip by silver and silver chloride deposition. 33,34 A cleaning step was performed with the potential cycling from 0 to 1.3 V with 0.3 V s À1 scan rate for 2 h in 10 mM H 2 SO 4 . Electro-deposition of the silver layer was then conducted in 2 mM AgNO 3 by applying reduction potential (0 to À0.4 V) under a 0.5 mV s À1 scan rate in the presence of a additional platinum counter electrode and Ag/ AgCl reference electrode.…”

“…Ag/AgCl quasi-reference electrodes (QREs) are described in [29][30][31][32]. With all the convenience and functionality of Ag/AgCl QREs, their serious drawback is the non-stability of Ag/AgCl measuring surface from the environment in which it is located.…”

“…Encapsulation of Ag/AgCl/Clinto strong hardening polymers such as polyvinyl chloride [51,52] or poly (n-butyl acrylate) [53][54][55] is described in recent studies. SSREs described in [26,[31][32][33]35] keep the potential constant in a solution containing [Fe(CN) 6 ] 3-/4-, but protective polymer layers, in some cases, create a barrier for the penetration of substances generating the analytical signal to the measuring surface. Additionally, the complexity of such electrodes' manufacturing makes their mass use unlikely.…”
