Secrecy Analysis for Multi-Relaying RF-FSO Systems With a Multi-Aperture Destination

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security for an asymmetric dual-hop radio frequency-free space optical (RF-FSO) communication system, in which a source transmits information to a multi-aperture destination (D) through a best relay under the wiretapping of a multi-aperture eavesdropper (E). The best relay is selected by a partial relay selection scheme in terms of maximum instantaneous channel gain for the RF link. Moreover, equal gain combining scheme is also used to process the multiple copie… Show more

“…In this paper, we consider a best relay selection-based multi-relay decode-and-forward (DF) cooperative UWVLC system for both horizontal and vertical communication. Best relay selection is a widely used technique in radio-frequency (RF) and optical wireless communication systems employing multiple parallel relays [32][33][34]. In best relay selection, the link with the highest SNR is chosen to communicate with the destination node.…”

“…It should be mentioned that the mixed system of FSO interfaced with multi-antenna/multi-user RF system has been extensively investigated [21]- [26]. The authors in [21] presented the performance of a variable-gain AF based mixed system with transmit diversity for the multi-antenna source on the RF over Rayleigh fading and opportunistic selection on the multi-aperture FSO link.…”

“…The authors in [24] studied the performance of a mixed FSO and RF multi-user network with aperture selection and opportunistic user scheduling over shadowed κ-µ RF channels in the presence of Poisson field interference. A multiple relay setup was considered in [26], where the best relay was selected to forward the data from a source over Nakagami-m RF channel to a multi-aperture FSO detector.…”

“…Although this method guarantees the reliability of the system, the cost is high and the resources are wasted. In [22], the RF/OOWC system chooses the partial relay scheme maximize the instantaneous channel gain for the RF link.…”
