Abstract

If the belief in the American dream is strong, then financial resources can help directly. The dark side of the American dream implies that if legal means seem inconvenient then white-collar crime might be a convenient option. America is often described as a land of opportunity in which anyone, regardless of race or ethnicity, can succeed. Although this maxim is typically taken to refer to opportunities for social and economic advancement, it applies as well to opportunities to commit certain forms of crime. “Trump: An American Dream” is a four-part British television documentary, exploring the journey of Donald Trump through five decades. The first episode was shown in 2017. In the opportunity dimension, Trump had for a while status combined with an ability to conceal potential wrongdoing by various corporate structures and law firm initiatives. Government agencies seem still unable to develop their allegations and accusations into evidence that might lead to conviction.
