Secure MIMO Transmission via Intelligent Reflecting Surface

Abstract: In this letter, we consider an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted Guassian multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wiretap channel in which a multi-antenna transmitter communicates with a multi-antenna receiver in the presence of a multi-antenna eavesdropper. To maximize the secrecy rate of this channel, an alternating optimization (AO) algorithm is proposed to jointly optimize the transmit covariance R at transmitter and phase shift coefficient Q at IRS by fixing the other as a constant. When Q is fi… Show more

“…In [204], the authors consider an RIS-assisted Guassian MIMO wiretap channel, in which a multi-antenna transmitter communicates with a multi-antenna receiver in the presence of a multi-antenna eavesdropper. The secrecy rate is maximized by using an alternating optimization algorithm, which jointly optimizes the transmit covariance and the phase shifts at the RIS.…”

“…Specifically, in [17], the authors investigated the problem of maximizing the secrecy rate in a secure multiple-input single-output (MISO) channel aided by IRS. Furthermore, the secure IRS-aided design in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system was investigated in [18] and [19]. While, in [20], the authors investigated the secure transmission for IRS-assisted millimeterwave communication systems.…”

“…To overcome the obstacle, we introduce the penalty method to move this constraint into the objective. While for the security concerned literatures in MIMO channel such as [18], [19] and [23], both the methods in [18] and [19] are not suitable when considering AN, while the work in [23] was not considering IRS. Thus, our work is different with these related works.…”
