Seed dormancy and germination characteristics of Acer cinnamomifolium, a plant species endemic to China

Abstract: Seed dormancy is an adaptive response of plants to environmental changes during long-term evolution. It plays an important role in plant survival and propagation. Acer cinnamomifolium, a plant species endemic to China, is an excellent garden and street tree species. However, dormancy and germination characteristics of A. cinnamomifolium seeds are not currently known. In the present paper, the mature seeds were used as experimental materials and we investigated the effect of temperature including alternating te… Show more

“…mairei seeds requires warm temperatures. Our results are consistent with those of previous studies, which indicate that the embryos of many seeds with MPD need to grow at warm temperatures, followed by cold stratification conditions (Baskin and Baskin, 2004;Tang, 2014b;Li et al, 2017). For example, the embryo development of Paris polyphylla var.…”

“…They require a period of cold stratification to acquire germination capacity. For temperate species, cold stratification is a standard procedure for breaking dormancy (Yao and Shen 2018;Tang et al 2021;Chen et al 2022). Based on the laboratory data, germination of Korean pine seeds at the four germination temperatures gradually increased over the extended cold stratification period, regardless of cold stratification temperatures.…”
