“…36 However, the microgreens yield, glutathione content and F v /F m showed no negative effects of these combined Se and I treatments. By contrast, the yields were even enhanced, which suggests that enhanced ETS activity might be a consequence of a stimulating effect of the combinations of Se and I on the metabolic potential in these microgreens, as was proposed for pea sprouts by Jerse et al 20 To better understand how Se and I influenced the accumulation of each other in the buckwheat microgreens, we evaluated the uptake of Se and I as an approximation, which was calculated as the Se and I masses in the microgreens divided by the theoretical masses of Se and I in the seeds after soaking (on the assumption that water, Se and I were taken up similarly). The mean dry mass for microgreens of 7.3% was considered.…”

“…The Se determination was conducted as described by Jerse et al 20 To avoid doubly charged and polyatomic interference for the mass/charge ratio of 78. Se was determined using inductively coupled plasma tandem mass spectrometry (model 8800; Agilent Technologies, Tokyo, Japan) (for details, see Supporting information, Table S1), using oxygen in a reaction cell.…”

“…However, it has been evidenced that Se has many positive effects on plants, capable of accumulating this element (Golob et al 2016). Recently there were some reports about combined effects of Se and I on plants (Zhu et al 2004, Smoleń et al 2014, 2016, Germ et al 2015, Osmić et al 2017, Jerše et al 2017. However, according to our knowledge, the effect of Se and I on buckwheat grain has not been studied.…”
