Nowadays, the devastating effects of natural disasters and methods of protection from these effects are very popular. In the field of civil engineering, the issue of protecting structures against natural disasters has always been on the agenda. For this reason, research on the protection of all building types against natural disasters is of vital importance. It seems that masonry reservoirs, especially those used for irrigation purposes, are negatively affected by earthquakes. As a result of this situation, problems are encountered in accessing clean water and storing clean water. Post-disaster modal performance levels of masonry reservoirs should be examined and as a result, appropriate retrofitting techniques should be applied according to the structure type, damage and regional conditions. Various retrofitting methods are available to increase the seismic performance and stiffness of masonry reservoirs. The retrofitting method with GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) also stands out as an alternative. For all these reasons, this study focused on retrofitting masonry reservoirs with GRC. A masonry reservoir model was created with the finite element method and modal analysis was performed. Then, the same model was retrofitted with GRC and modal analysis was performed. When the results obtained were compared, it was seen that retrofitting with GRC significantly increased the masonry reservoir rigidity. In light of all these findings, it is recommended to retrofit GRC to ensure that the legacy of masonry reservoirs reaches the future.

The vulnerability of reinforced concrete (RC) structures against seismic events has prompted extensive research into retrofitting techniques aimed at enhancing their seismic performance. Among these, Fabric-Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) systems have gained prominence as promising solutions for strengthening RC-columns. This study presents a comprehensive investigation into the seismic strengthening of RC columns using FRCM, combining experimental and numerical approaches to assess their effectiveness. The experimental phase of this research involved the fabrication of scaled RC-column specimens representing typical real-world conditions. These columns were subjected to a series of cyclic loading tests to simulate seismic forces. Multiple FRCM configurations, including different fiber types and dosages, were applied to these specimens. The experimental results revealed a substantial increase in the ductility, stiffness, and ultimate strength of the strengthened RC-columns, indicating the potential of FRCM systems as effective seismic retrofit solutions. In parallel, a numerical analysis was conducted using finite element modeling (FEM) to simulate the behavior of the strengthened RC-columns under seismic loading conditions. The FEM simulations were validated against the experimental data, demonstrating good agreement. This numerical investigation allowed for a more in-depth understanding of the stress distribution and deformation patterns within the strengthened columns, aiding in the optimization of FRCM reinforcement strategies. The integrated experimental and numerical investigation presented in this study contributes valuable insights into the seismic strengthening of RC-columns using FRCM systems. It provides a holistic understanding of their performance, including their enhanced load-carrying capacity, as well as improved ductility guiding the adoption of FRCM systems as a viable solution for mitigating seismic risk in existing RC-structures.

Historical buildings are the cultural heritage of the world. Preservation of historical buildings is important in the past and today. In particular, material fatigue, environmental vibration effects and natural disasters that occur over time cause great damage to historical structures. It is thought that many historical buildings will not reach the next years due to neglect. In order to prevent this situation, historical buildings should be maintained and strengthened if necessary. In addition, historical buildings should have sufficient stiffness to prevent collapse against pre-disaster situations. Masonry domes are often seen in historical buildings. Many masonries dome historical structures are frequently encountered today. In order for masonry dome in historical building to be transferred to the future, care should be taken and they may need to be strengthened periodically, especially after disasters. For all these reasons, in this study, the GRC retrofitting method, which is one of the retrofitting methods of buildings, is mentioned. Thus, the effect of the GRC retrofitting method applied on an exemplary historical masonry dome on modal parameters has been demonstrated. In this comparative study, it was observed that the stiffness of the masonry dome increased with the GRC retrofitting method. As a result of this study, it is suggested to retrofitting masonry dome with the GRC retrofitting method, taking into account the state of the historical building and environmental factors.
