Seismic Failure Pattern Prediction in a Historical Masonry Minaret under Different Earthquakes

Abstract: Historical structures are the values that are of great importance to that country, showing the roots of a country, and must be passed on from generation to generation. is study attempts to make a contribution to this goal. Seismic damage pattern estimation in a historical brick masonry minaret under different ground motion levels is investigated by using updated finite element models based on ambient vibration data in this study. Imaret Mosque which was built in 1481 AD is selected for an application. Surveyin… Show more

“…Although CDP model proposed by Lubliner et al [27], is used for concrete material, it is later adapted masonry material behavior by Lee and Fenves [28]. In the literature, there are many studies using CDP material model for modeling structural behavior of masonry structures [29][30][31]. CDP characterizes the behavior of the concrete subjected to tension and compression stresses and the damage parameters as shown in Fig.…”

“…Thus, differences between these methods are considerably reduced and presented in Table 4. [18] identified the damage distribution of a historic masonry minaret and observed that the damage concentrated in the minaret's transition segment. Hökelekli et al [13] performed the linear and nonlinear damage analyses using the CDP material model in a historical minaret.…”

“…One of the most significant factors affecting the seismic behavior of the structures is the soil medium. In the literature, it is generally assumed that the structure's base is restrained with fixed supports, neglecting the soil medium [6,7,9,10,18]. Although this assumption is acceptable for hard soils, it may lead to wrong results for soft and loose soils [19].…”

“…Nohutcu (2019) made a study to achieve this goal. Seismic assessment for historical masonry minaret under different excitations is investigated in this study by using finite element models depended on ambient vibration data [5]. Demir et al (2016) Presented a study to evaluate the seismic damage and the failure mechanism of the historical masonry minaret "Hafsa Sultan", which was constructed in 1522 [6].…”
