Selected converter topologies for interfacing energy storages with power grid

Abstract: Abstract. The paper presents different solutions applicable in power converter systems for connecting power grids with energy storage systems such as superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES), supercapacitor energy storage (SES) or chemical batteries. Those systems are characterized by bidirectional current flow between energy storage and power grid. Two-level converters (AC-DC and DC-AC converters) dedicated for low power energy storage compatible with 3£400 V-type power grids are proposed. High power sy… Show more

“…67 (3) 2019 studied one-way resource sharing and power transfer through a multi-direction Gaussian channel using multiple access techniques [9]. This was extended to a cooperative energy model based on two-way energy transfer pattern by Hussein Al Haj [5]. The valuable cooperative energy approach by Liu [10] was implemented based on CDMA/OFDMA multiple access techniques and on relay-based multiple access channels in the networks.…”

“…However, introducing three-level configurations into low-voltage converters is questionable as better voltage and current parameters are noted both at the power network input and output. Configuration of a low-voltage converter operating in a 3£400 V or similar power network depends on its application, in particular its power level [1,9,10,16].…”

“…Thanks to these features, the cascaded multilevel converters have been recognized as attractive solutions for HVDC transmission, SST and photovoltaic (PV) systems. The timely problem of how to interface different types of energy storages with power grid is addressed by an exceptionally experienced team of specialists: A. Domino, K. Zymmer and M. Parchomiuk from the Electrotechnical Institute (IEL), Warsaw, Poland [5]. They present an overview of converter topologies for energy storage, such as superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES), supercapacitor energy storage (SES) and chemical batteries.…”
