Selection of mother wavelets thresholding methods in denoising multi-channel EEG signals during working memory task

Abstract: The aim of this pilot study was to select the most similar mother wavelet function and the most efficient threshold in order to use with wavelet basis function for the human brain electrical activity during working memory task. A 60 seconds was recorded from the scalp using the Electroencephalography (EEG). 19 electrodes were placed over different sites on the scalp where analyzed for one control subject and one post-stroke patients in the first week of his stroke onset. In this study, forty-five mother wavele… Show more

“…The adaptive soft thresholding method, SURE threshold have been used. In SURE method the threshold value is achieved based on Stein’s unbiased risk estimation [ 92 ] and it used in [ 93 , 94 , 95 ]. The EEG signal was subjected to a five-level decomposition (the sampling frequency of this study was 256 Hz).…”

“…Considering this finding, [ 74 , 75 , 76 , 77 ] proposed a WT threshold value by calculating the noise level of all WT sample coefficients, and then setting the threshold values to reveal noise-free WT coefficients. The SURE threshold, is an adaptive soft thresholding method, which is finding the threshold limit for each level based on Stein’s unbiased risk estimation [ 78 ] and commonly used value in [ 79 , 80 , 81 ].…”

“…Al-Qazzaz et al [33], [34] conducted a comparative study to determine the efficient MWFs that can provide high signal characteristics for an EEG channel. These authors tested 45 MWFs that are categorized into Daubechies, Symlets and Coiflets families.…”
