Selective Angiography Using the Radiofrequency Catheter: An Alternative Technique for Mapping and Ablation in the Aortic Cusps

Abstract: Selective angiography through a cooled-tip radiofrequency ablation catheter is feasible to assess relation of coronary ostia and ablation site when ablation in aortic cusps. It allows continuous real-time assessment of this relation, avoids the need for additional vascular accesses and no complications occurred in our series.

“…12 In addition, contrast injection through the ablation catheter has been proposed as a tool to visualize CAO, but the low flow of injected contrast limits the accuracy of CAO distance estimations. 13 The use of ICE to guide ASC-PVC ablation, as in the present study, resolves the problem of evaluating the distance from the catheter tip to ostia. 3D integration of the ICE image in the EAM system and real-time monitoring of the relationship of catheter tip to CA ostia offers a comprehensive approach that does not require CC.…”

“…ICE is also used to guide and monitor electrode position during RF ablation in subvalvular LVOT . An alternative method to control the distance from a catheter tip to a coronary ostium during ablation in the Valsalva sinuses, not requiring additional vascular access, has been proposed . The authors used the lumen of a cooled‐tip catheter to perform repeat angiography for real‐time assessment of its relation to a coronary artery.…”
