Selective cycloaddition of aryl azides to fullerene C60 in the presence of Cu(OTf)2

Abstract

Cycloaddition of aryl azides to fullerene C 60 in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of copper(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate selectively afforded the corresponding aziridinofullerenes whose structure was reliably proved by 1 H and 13 C NMR, MALDI TOF mass spectrometry, and IR spectroscopy.
