Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty in the Treatment of Open-angle Glaucoma

Abstract: SLT resulted in a significant IOP reduction of 16.3% at 16 months after surgery. The level of IOP reduction did not vary in POAG, PEX, and PG groups. A significant increase in IOP was observed in PG group after 6 months. The procedure seemed least effective in diabetic patients.

“…7,16 There were statistically significant differences (p < 0.0001) between the PEX and C groups and between PEXG and C. IOP was found to be significantly higher in the groups with PEX and PEXG compared to the control group, whereas there were no statistically significant differences between the study groups (p = 0.1778). This finding could suggest quite a good response to treatment in patients from the PEXG group; however, the interview shows that 57.2% of patients with PEXG (24 patients) experienced increases of IOP above 21 mm Hg despite the treatment.…”

“…Risks of LT include intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes (Z5 mm Hg in 0% to 28% of eyes, Z10 mm Hg in up to 5.5%), 6 inflammation (0% to 32%), 7,8 corneal clouding, 9,10 rare cases of cystoid macular edema, 7,11,12 and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT)-induced keratitis. 13 Although most of these resolve with conservative treatment, there are cases of uncontrolled IOP requiring filtration surgery 14 and prolonged vision reduction secondary to corneal haze. [15][16][17] Physician reimbursement is also decreased for same-day bilateral procedures in Ontario with the second procedure reimbursed at 85% when performed on the same day.…”

“…Certains auteurs ne retrouvent aucune différence d'efficacité de la SLT selon le type de glaucome, mais notent un taux de complications plus élevé en cas de SLT pour GP avec une réduction pressionnelle à 6 mois plus faible, et un taux de chirurgies filtrantes supérieur [13]. En outre, après SLT, une hypertonie peut survenir en cas de GP particulière-ment après ALT [14].…”
