Selective phosphidation: an effective strategy toward CoP/CeO2 interface engineering for superior alkaline hydrogen evolution electrocatalysis

Abstract: In 1.0 M KOH, CoP–CeO2 nanosheets film on Ti mesh (CoP–CeO2/Ti) attains 10 mA cm−2 at overpotential of 43 mV due to its lower water dissociation free energy and more optimal hydrogen adsorption free energy than CoP.

“…The Co 2p3/2 region (Figure b) shows two peaks centered at the binding energies (BEs) of 778.6 and 782.1 eV with one shakeup satellite peak at 786.2 eV (marked as “s”), whereas the Co 2p1/2 region shows two peaks at 793.1 and 798.3 eV with a satellite peak at 803.0 eV. The peaks at 778.6 and 793.1 eV are assigned to Co in CoP (Co 3+ ), whereas the peaks at 782.1 and 798.3 eV arose from the superficial oxidation of CoP, which may exist in the form of Co 3 O 4 .
