Selectively Placing Many Fractures in Openhole Horizontal Wells Improves Production

Abstract: Summary This paper presents the results of a study on an openhole well that was treated with a new fracturing process - hydrajet fracturing. In only a single pass, hydrajet fracturing allows operators to use high-pressure jets to place multiple fractures accurately in several locations in a well. To fracture the well most effectively, the process uses surface and downhole data recorders to monitor well conditions. Study results show that the hydrajet fracturing process is an effective, econom… Show more

“…On the basis of previous studies on blockage removal and impact efficiency of the rotary jet [28,29], the spray distance is divided into 5.0 mm, 7.0 mm, 10.0 mm, 12.0 mm and 15.0 mm for research in this section. In order to study the influence of spray distance on the flow field of the rotary jet, the bottom nozzle and oblique nozzle on the rotary jet nozzle are canceled in this section to reduce the interference to the lateral rotary jet in the simulation process.…”

“…However, because of their low permeability and poor production, it is necessary to fracture the oil and gas wells. Staged fracturing completion technology in horizontal wells is an advanced and effective measure of enhancing oil and gas production and recovery ratios during the exploration of low-permeability reservoirs (Economides and Nolte 2000;Love et al 2001;Ye et al 2008), and packers are key equipment to complete multistage fracturing successfully. However, high demands on the materials and the structure of the packer rubber are required to meet the high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) conditions of reservoirs.…”

“…Oil would be transported for a short distance and become lighter. In certain economic and technical conditions, single well, without natural productivity or which natural productivity is lower than the lower limit of industrial capacity, will obtain industrial production of oil [2,3,4]. Combined with the actual situation of the Ordos basin, the tight oil is divided into two types ( Figure 1).…”
