Semantic analysis in the automation of ER modelling through natural language processing

Abstract: This paper deals with the problem of extracting semantic knowledge in the production of ER models from natural language specifications. The application of semantic heuristics is proposed as the strategy to obtain the relevant ER elements such as entities, attributes and relationships from the specifications. Earlier research has shown that syntactic heuristics produced good results in identifying the relevant and correct results of the ER elements in terms of recall and precision. The inclusion of the semantic… Show more

“…Researchers have suggested many variations in basic POS tagging approaches to enhance the performance of domain specific term extraction. Correlation analysis is used popularly in all domains to quantify associations among extracted features (Alsuhaibani et al, 2015;Omar et al, 2004). Park (2008) elaborated various analysis types and also mentions that correlation analysis is used as one of major quantitative technique in this domain.…”

“…In this stage, the system is decomposed into at least three components. Many approaches are used to extract EER's components from requirement specification, such as [20][21][22]. SEER needs entities and their attributes, relationships, and semantic constraints (condition statements or functions).…”
