Semantic-Based Query Routing and Heterogeneous Data Integration in Peer-to-Peer Semantic Link Networks

Abstract: Abstract.A semantic link P2P network specifies and manages semantic relationships between peers' data schemas. The proposed approach includes a tool for constructing and maintaining P2P semantic link networks, a semantic-based peer similarity measurement approach for efficient query routing, and peer schema mapping algorithms for query reformulation and heterogeneous data integration. The advantages of the proposed approach include three aspects: First, it uses semantic links to enrich relationships between pe… Show more

“…It extends the web's hyperlink to semantic link which links various resources and knowledge and helps humans to understand, learn and discover in the world. SLN has been used to improve the efficiency of query routing in P2P network [13], and it has been adopted as one of the major mechanisms of organizing resources for the knowledge grid [33]. Our proposed system, OntoSum, was inspired by the Semantic Web and the SLN technologies.…”

“…Semantic links relates the entities of two ontologies that share the same domain of discourse in such a way that the logical structure and the intended interpretations of the ontologies are respected. We adopt the semantic links defined by Zhuge in [13]. In particular, a semantic link between two ontologies can be one of the following types: help the reasoning mechanism to find new semantic implication relationships.…”

“…In the P2P Semantic Link Networks (P2PSLN) approach developed by Zhuge et al (2004), each peer holds an XML schema describing its knowledge. When a peer enters the network, it computes the semantic mappings between its schema and the schemas of a set of peers using reasoning rules.…”

“…Several approaches have been proposed to find the sources that fit users' requirements (Staab et al, 2004;Zhuge et al, 2004;Zeinalipour-Yazti et al, 2005;Giunchiglia and Zaihrayeu, 2002;Mandreoli et al, 2006;Haase et al, 2006;Wiegand and Garcia, 2007;Montanelli and Castano, 2008). Typical approaches are based on ontologies, which are commonly defined as ''formal specification of a conceptualisation'' (Gruber, 1993), or simply put, a (more or less) formal representation of concepts and relations that describe a domain of interest (Agarwal, 2005).…”
