Semantic Browsing with PowerMagpie

Abstract: Abstract. PowerMagpie is a tool that brings semantic interpretation to classical web pages by dynamically-i.e. during browsing-selecting and making use of a wide range of online available ontologies. We introduce the idea of extending browsing through semantic, ontology-based interpretation. Then, we provide a brief description of the architecture. In the end we underline which aspects of the available online semantic data are demonstrated, what the user may learn and which are the future directions.

“…From a dynamic linking perspective, the Corese-NeLI framework follows the same principle as COHSE 7 and PowerMagpie [7], while for navigating over RDF linked data, it is close to Tabulator [5] and the Disco Hyperdata Browser 8 . However, our approach can be distinguished by its ability to cater to a variety of users by capturing their behavior during the course of their browsing.…”

“…The basis of semantic browsing is the use of one or several knowledge organization systems as background knowledge. Tools in this topic include the COHSE System [2], PowerMagpie [11] and those developed in the course of the SeaLife project [18] for instance the Corese-NeLI browser [6] and GoPubmed [9]. The objective of SeaLife was the design and implementation of a semantic Grid browser for the life sciences, which links existing Web resources to available eservices.…”
