Semantic Technology and Anthropomorphism

Abstract: A long-standing debate exists on whether robots need personality. With voice assistants (VAs) (i.e., Google Assistant and Apple's Siri) as the research context, this study employed the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) model and the theory of reasoned action to investigate how the personalities that VAs display (i.e., humanlike traits and behavior traits) influence perceived risk, perceived enjoyment, trust, attitude to use, and continued usage intention. The results show that when VAs have more humanlike lingu… Show more

“…Based on the Fornell-Larcker criterion, the results in Table 3 showed that the square root of the AVE value of each construct was greater than its correlation with any other construct (Fornell & Larcker, 1981). Meanwhile, the heterotrait-monotrait ratios in Table 4 were all below 0.85 (Henseler et al, 2015;Mohiuddin et al, 2023;Hsu et al, 2023). Such results indicated that the constructs had good discriminative validity.…”

“…Response cost is the estimated physical and psychological cost (e.g., in time, money, and effort) of performing a protective behavior (Ezati Rad et al, 2021;Jayawardena et al, 2023;Taheri-Kharameh et al, 2020), overcoming a complex problem, or controlling a powerful habit (Haag et al, 2021). Both self-efficacy and response cost have a great impact on behavioral intention (Farooq et al, 2019;Hsu & Lee, 2023;Lee & Seomun, 2021;Maddux & Rogers, 1983;Marikyan & Papagiannidis, 2023;Marshall et al, 2022). Hence, the following hypotheses were proposed: H 3 : Self-efficacy has a positive effect on information-security protection motivation.…”
