Sensing and Detection Capabilities of One-Dimensional Defective Photonic Crystal Suitable for Malaria Infection Diagnosis from Preliminary to Advanced Stage: Theoretical Study

Abstract: In the present research work we have examined the biosensing capabilities of one-dimensional photonic crystals with defects for the detection and sensing of malaria infection in humans by investigating blood samples containing red blood cells. This theoretical scheme utilizes a transfer matrix formulation in addition to MATLAB software under normal incidence conditions. The purpose of considering normal incidence is to rule out the difficulties associated with oblique incidence. We have examined the performanc… Show more

“…This heightened sensitivity is particularly crucial in medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, and industrial sensing. TPC can amplify fluorescence peak shifts caused by the introduction of biomolecules, making it a reliable indicator of their presence 72 . Moreover, fluorescence tunability allows precise control of emission properties, facilitating multiplexed sensing and reducing spectral overlap in complex samples.…”

“…The sensitivity ( S ) and quality factor ( QF ) of any biosensor are amongst the most important parameters which are used for estimating the performance of biosensor. The numeric values of S and QF are calculated with the following equations as 34 , 35 and …”

“…16 1D PCs have gained prominence in scientific research due to their versatility in applications, particularly in sensing, as well as their cost-efficiency and simplified manufacturing processes compared to 2D and 3D PCs. 17 Recently, 1D-PC-based biosensors received considerable attention in the detection of different diseases such as cancer cells, 18 malaria infection, 19 and diabetes. 20,21 Chikungunya disease has also been the interest of PCs by Sharma et al, 8 who designed a 2D-PC double ring resonator-based biosensor.…”
