“…On the basis of sequence stratigraphy, various reinterpretations of the origins of isolated sandstone bodies have been proposed (Plint, 1988; Walker & Bergman, 1993; Jennette & Jones, 1995; Sullivan et al ., 1997; Martinsen, 2003; Pattison, 2005; Nielsen & Johannessen, 2008; Valarelov & Bhattacharya, 2009; Fielding et al ., 2014; Hutsky & Fielding, 2016) and the number of isolated sandstone bodies that are currently interpreted as ancient sand ridges has decreased. Sand ridge lithofacies models, therefore, need to be updated with a better understanding of lithofacies architecture in order to: (i) establish criteria for identifying the origins of transgressive shelf sandstone bodies; and (ii) facilitate effective exploration and production of petroleum and other natural resources as well as the storage of CO 2 in these deposits (Posamentier, 2002; Schwarz, 2012; Messina et al ., 2014; López et al ., 2016; Chiarella et al ., 2020).…”
