In the Central Iberian Zone synorogenic (syn-and late-D 3 , the last deformation phase) composite batholiths of biotite-rich granitods with peraluminous character are well represented. We report here U-Pb zircon and monazite ages, geochemical, Sr-Nd-O isotopic data and Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility (AMS) studies for the late-D 3 Vieira do Minho pluton, in northern Portugal. AMS reveals the paramagnetic behaviour of these granites and the magnetic fabric enhances the major role of NW-SE regional anisotropies on controlling the ascent and emplacement of the magmas. Magnetic anisotropy and medium temperature microstructures also point out the evolution of regional tectonics during crystallization of the magma. U-Pb zircon and monazite analyses yield consistent ages of 310 ± 2 Ma and 312 ± 2 Ma, interpreted as emplacement age. The Vieira do Minho pluton consists of two peraluminous monzogranites, the VMG and the MRG. Both have similar ε Nd values (VMG= −5.2 to −5.7; MRG =−4.98 to −5.96) but the VMG is slightly enriched in 87 Sr/ 86 i = 0.7087-0.7098 as well as in δ 18 O in the range of 10.6‰ to 11.0‰ than the MRG with 87 Sr/ 86 i =0.7064-0.7075 and δ 18 O=9.9‰-10.5‰. These granites are associated with coeval scarce grabroic intrusions and/or mafic microgranular enclaves which are not considered as mafic precursors of the associated granitic magmatism. Instead, a lower metaigneous crustal source, at different levels, is proposed based on the available data set.

The new U-Pb SHRIMP zir con age of 296 ± 6 Ma for the Gêbczyce Bt-Ms gran ite shows that this body be longs to the third stage of magmatism in the Strzelin Mas sif. The U-Pb SHRIMP zir con data for the Bt-Ms gran ite dykes pro vide ages sim i lar to those of their host rocks: c. 295 Ma for the Gêsiniec tonalite and the en closed Bt-Ms gran ite, and c. 285 Ma for the Strzelin bi o tite gran ite and its Bt-Ms gran ite dykes. These new data from peraluminous rock-types comple ment our pre vi ous stud ies fo cused on the tonalites, granodiorites and bi o tite gran ites, and shed light on the late-stage igne ous evo lu tion of the Strzelin Mas sif.

Continental ice sheets are a key component of the Earth's climate system, but their internal dynamics need to be further studied. Since the last deglaciation, the northern Eurasian Fennoscandian Ice Sheet (FIS) has been connected to the Black Sea (BS) watershed, making this basin a suitable location to investigate former icesheet dynamics. Here, from a core retrieved in the BS, we combine the use of neodymium isotopes, high-resolution elemental analysis, and biomarkers to trace changes in sediment provenance and river runoff. We reveal cyclic releases of meltwater originating from Lake Disna, a proglacial lake linked to the FIS during Heinrich Stadial 1. Regional interactions within the climate-lake-FIS system, linked to changes in the availability of subglacial water, led to abrupt drainage cycles of the FIS into the BS watershed. This phenomenon raised the BS water level by ∼100 m until the sill of the Bosphorus Strait was reached, flooding the vast northwestern BS shelf and deeply affecting the hydrology and circulation of the BS and, probably, of the Marmara and Aegean Seas.ice dynamics | meltwater routing | European hydrographic network
