Serum amyloid A is a useful marker to evaluate the disease activity of Takayasu’s arteritis

Abstract: Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is a rare large vessel vasculitis that is difficult to diagnose in the early stages. Therefore, it is also very difficult to manage and prevent irreversible vascular damage in TA. A 19-year-old female patient with back pain was examined using [(18)F]-FDG-PET to detect the source of inflammation. Specific accumulation of [(18)F]-FDG was observed in the thoracic and abdominal aorta, leading to the diagnosis of TA. Corticosteroid treatment resulted in clinical remission. However, the ser… Show more

“…SAA has been shown elevated after GCs treatments in nonhepatic cell types (19,21,38,47) and 3T3-L1 adipose cells, which also exhibited an increased IL6 mRNA level (10). Here, besides sets of downregulated chemokines, a large group of proinflammatory factors, including interleukins and chemokines, were overexpressed, especially in AT.…”

“…C-reactive protein is produced in the liver in response to interleukin-6, and thus C-reactive protein is not suitable to evaluate inflammatory activity after initiation of tocilizumab. However, serum amyloid A is suitable to evaluate disease activity under tocilizumab treatment [20, 21]. In the present case, serum amyloid A and 18 F-FDG uptake indicated that inflammation remained in the patient.…”

“…Zudem wurde die sekundäre Amyloidose wie auch bei der RZA bei Patienten mit TA beschrieben [ 59 ] . In einer weiteren Arbeit wurde das Serumamyloid A sogar als sinnvoller Marker für die Bewertung der Krankheitsaktivität der TA angesehen [ 60 ] . Als weitere assoziierte Erkrankung wurde bei einzelnen TA Patienten eine IgA Nephropathie in der Literatur beschrieben [ 61 ] .…”
