Serum vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 as a potential biomarker in psoriasis

Abstract: To discover novel biomarkers of psoriasis, a target-specific antibody array screening of serum samples from psoriasis patients was initially performed. The results revealed that vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGFR-3) was significantly elevated in the sera of psoriasis patients, compared to healthy controls. Next, ELISA validation studies in a larger cohort of psoriasis patients (N = 73) were conducted, which confirmed that serum VEGFR-3 was indeed significantly increased in patients with psori… Show more

“… 30 Since VEGF has been known to be involved in psoriasis pathogenesis, these reports support the hypothesis that miR-205 and miR-17 expressions may affect psoriasis development via VEGF. 31 In the present study, while miR-205-5p expression was significantly up-regulated, mir-17-3p expression was significantly down-regulated in psoriasis patients when compared with controls.…”

“…The neuropilins (NRPs), NRP-1 and NRP-2, are a family of non-tyrosine kinase receptors that amplify VEGF-A signalling. [38] Other members of the VEGF superfamily, such as VEGF-C and VEGF-D, bind to VEGFR-3 (also known as Flt-4), which is expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells and mediates lymphangiogenesis [39,40] ( Figure 2).…”

“…Comprehensive determination of the serum proteome of psoriasis patients may help better understand the pathogenesis of psoriasis as well as identify diagnosis and treatment biomarkers. To date, only a limited number of psoriasis serum proteins have been studied 25, 26.…”
