Summary In recent years, fog computing, a novel paradigm, has emerged for location and latency‐sensitive applications. It is a powerful complement for cloud computing that enables provisioning services and resources outside the cloud near the end devices. In a fog system, the existence of several nonhomogenous devices, which are potentially mobile, led to quality of service (QoS) worries. QoS‐aware approaches are presented in various parts of the fog system, and several different QoS factors are taken into account. In spite of the importance of QoS in fog computing, no comprehensive study on QoS‐aware approaches exists in fog computing. Hence, this paper reviews the current research used to guarantee QoS in fog computing. This paper investigates the QoS‐ensuring techniques that fall into three categories: service/resource management, communication management, and application management (published between 2013 and October 2018). Regarding the selected approaches, this paper represents merits, demerits, tools, evaluation types, and QoS factors. Finally, on the basis of the reviewed studies, we suggest some open issues and challenges which are worth further studying and researching in QoS‐aware approaches in fog computing.

Advanced technologies such as internet of things (IoT) and clouds have significantly influenced on modern medical monitoring systems. Analytical statistics derived from massive patients' medical data via different data analysis methods, contribute in remote medical monitoring, early diagnosis of diseases, predicting clinical events, and recommending vital health/medical instructions. According to existence of the same health/medical services in functional aspect, finding appropriate composite health/medical services by the patients has been remained as a major concern in modern medical systems. Regarding this challenge, in this paper, a medical monitoring scheme for cloud‐based IoT platform is proposed, in which the patients' medical conditions are derived through predicting diseases by mining her physiological data collected from IoT devices and other medical records. A disease diagnosis model is used to analyze the patients' medical data for the aim of offering a composite health/medical prescription. After confirming the outcomes by medical team, it is sent to the patient. Then, the patient indicates her nonfunctional requirements such as location, cost and time to find the most appropriate composite health/medical service based on her preferences. Experimental results reveal that the proposed scheme is successful in achieving effective diseases diagnosis for offering composite health/medical prescriptions.

Internet of Things (IoT) has been grown rapidly over the last years to connect a considerable number of spatially distributed objects or actuators. The connected objects create new functionality and provide various services to enhance and satisfy End-users daily lives. The issue is to provide the End-users with optimal services based on their requirements. The critical challenge is to select the optimal service from similar services functionally and various services non-functionality requirements (Quality of services). To achieve this challenge, this paper proposed a services selection model under QoS constraints in the IoT environment. The introduced model implements a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm with a friendly Likert scale measurement method. It aims to improve the performance of bio-inspired optimizing algorithms, called a Social Spider Optimization (SSO) Algorithm, by adding a reputation value to member's weight. The proposed model used a Likert scale measurement to evaluate the reputation of the services from the End-users. In the experiments, a comparative study was done between an original SSO and the proposed RI-SSO model. The results show the efficiency of the proposed RI-SSO model against the original SSO, in both maximization and minimization problems. It obtains a better outperform in terms of fitness values.
