Severe Case of Delayed Replantation of Avulsed Permanent Central Incisor: A Case Report with Four-Year Follow-Up

Abstract: Avulsion is one of the most serious dental traumatic injuries with a reserved prognosis. This case report describes multiple trauma lesions in permanent central incisors of an eight-year-old girl and a four-year follow-up. The right upper incisor suffered avulsion, remained 16 h extraorally, and was replanted after extraoral endodontic therapy. The left maxillary central incisor suffered a noncomplicated crown fracture with concomitant subluxation. The present case adds to the literature a rare occurrence of s… Show more

“…A tooth avulsion is the total rupture of the periodontal ligament, complete loss of connection between the tooth and the socket, and cemental damage. The most crucial element for reattachment after tooth replantation is the viability of the periodontal ligament cells [8]. Factors such as extraoral dry time, storage media, and the presence of any root abnormalities affect the outcome and survival rate of avulsed teeth [9].…”

“…Infection-related and ankylosis-related root resorption are the most critical consequences because they are the main causes of the extraction of the replanted tooth 10 , 11 , 12 . However, although rare, there are indications in the literature of delayed replantations, such as an avulsed tooth with 22 13 and 16 extraorally hours 14 that were successful.…”
