“…We describe a few issues in what follows and acknowledge there are others not included here because they exceed the scope of this article. For example, there are a host of issues regarding measurement, including what to measure and how (Durso & Gates, 2015;The GenIUSS Group, 2014;Williams Institute, 2009), as well as the need for sexual and gender minority measures in national and representative data relevant to families (Cahill & Makadon, 2017;Durso & Gates, 2015;Perales & Baxter, 2018). Also, a growing number of large, publically available datasets offer new opportunities to unveil unique and important within-group differences among queer families (see lgbtdata .com; Russell & Muraco, 2013).…”

“…Relationship quality is a long‐standing area of family research. Research consistently shows that same‐sex and different‐sex couples report relatively similar relationship quality (e.g., Joyner, Manning, & Prince, ; Perales & Baxter, ). In the past decade, scholarship moved beyond the basic question of comparing relationship quality across same‐ and different‐sex couples to the study of the unique determinants of relationship quality in same‐sex couples—focusing on the consequences of stigmatization from family, friends, and institutions.…”

“…There was no significant difference between same-sex couples and heterosexual couples in UK based upon quality of intimate relationship, but same-sex couples reported higher levels of relationship quality than heterosexuals in Australia. Bisexuals reported the lowest relationship quality in both UK and Australia (Perales & Baxter, 2018). In addition, a higher percentage of couples reported feelings of jealousy when one of the partners was bisexual.…”
