“…This is why it is important to consider alternative methodological approaches to the study of Canada in the UNGA. CFP scholars interested in how Canada positions itself vis-à-vis other states might consider content-analyzing official statements issued during the General Debates (Hecht, 2016; Baturo et al, 2017), much as Paquin and Beauregard (2013) did in their study of international crisis statements between 2004 and 2011. More interpretively oriented CFP scholars could do the same using discourse analysis.…”

Also marking Harperism is a succession of unilateralist foreign policy moves: the decision to cut aid to Hamas in 2006, the withdrawal from the Kyoto Protocol in 2011 and the refusal to sign the Arms Trade Treaty in 2013 (Paquin and Beauregard, 2013; Vucetic, 2017). …”

“…Because the Arctic includes both mainland and Arctic offshore territory, that harbours many natural riches but also neighbours other states with which Canada has some maritime delimitation issues, Arctic policy as a policy area entails foreign, environmental, Northern development, and economic issues, and involves many players within the federal bureaucracy. Secondly, Arctic foreign policy is much closer to home than many other issue areas that scholars have used as case studies to show Canada's multilateralism or alignment along transatlantic ties (PAQUIN and BEAUREGARD 2013). Thirdly, the general narrative of Arctic policy has been shared by most Canadians and cannot easily be dissected along partisan lines.…”

“…L'une d'elles est que leur politique étrangère viserait l'électorat canadien afin que le parti conservateur devienne le parti « naturel » au Canada (Nossal 2013 : 31-32). D'autres avancent que le Canada serait influencé par ses alliés (Paquin et chaloux 2009 ;nossal 2011 ;Massie 2011 ;Paquin 2012 ;Paquin et beauregard 2013). Le postulat que le canada est limité par ses propres capacités a fait l'objet d'une analyse transversale par les chercheurs.…”
