Background: The study of low-energy neutrinos and their interactions with atomic nuclei is crucial to several open problems in physics, including the neutrino mass hierarchy, CP-violation, candidates of Beyond Standard Model physics and supernova dynamics. Examples of experiments include CAPTAIN at SNS as well as DUNE's planned detection program of supernova neutrinos.Purpose: We present cross section calculations for charged current and neutral current neutrinonucleus scattering at low energies, with a focus on 40 Ar. We also take a close look at pion decayat-rest neutrino spectra, which are used in e.g. the SNS experiment at Oakridge.Method and results: We employ a Hartree Fock + Continuum Random Phase Approximations (HF+CRPA) framework, which allows us to model the responses and include the effects of longrange correlations. It is expected to provide a good framework to calculate forbidden transitions, whose contribution we show to be non-negligible.Conclusions: Forbidden transitions can be expected to contribute sizeably to the reaction strength at typical low-energy kinematics, such as DAR neutrinos. Modeling and Monte Carlo simulations need to take all due care to account for the influence of their contributions.

Xenon detectors are used in the search for dark matter and neutrinoless double-beta decay (0νββ). As the next-generation detectors reach masses in the ton scale, neutrinos from astrophysical sources are soon predicted to become background in such detectors. Theoretical predictions of neutrino scattering cross sections and information of nuclear structure effects therein are crucial in accounting for the background. We perform calculations for differential and total cross sections of charged-current neutrino scattering off the most abundant xenon isotopes. The nuclear-structure calculations are made in the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation and the microscopic quasiparticle phonon model for even-mass and odd-mass nuclei, respectively. We compute total cross sections as a function of the neutrino energy, and also give estimates of total averaged cross sections for 8 B solar neutrinos and supernova neutrinos using realistic energy distributions.

Radiochemical experiments for low-energy solar-neutrino detection have been making headlines by exploiting the isotopes 37 Cl and 71 Ga. Such a very low-threshold measurement of this type can also be performed using 205 Tl, which has been considered for decades for this purpose. A unique feature of this detector nucleus is the integration is the solar-neutrino flux over millions of years owing to its long-living daughter 205 Pb. In this study we have calculated for the first time the cross section for the charged-current solar-neutrino scattering off 205 Tl. Taking into account the solar-modelpredicted neutrino fluxes and the electron-neutrino survival probabilities, a solar-neutrino capture rate of 62.2 ±8.6 SNU is determined, a value significantly smaller than in previous estimates.
