Short and Long Term Measurements in Assessment of FRP Composite Footbridge Behavior

Abstract: The paper presents application of different sensors for the purpose of short and long term measurements, as well as a structural health monitoring (SHM) system to assess the behavior of a novel fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) composite footbridge. The aim is to present a thorough and concise description of these sensors networks and results gathered with their aid during in situ measurement of strains, displacements, and vibrations, as only a few works are available in this field. The bridge geometry, material… Show more

“…As with laser scanning, which was not profitable (e.g., high cost of the device, weight of collected data), and yet still found various applications [83][84][85], bathymetric scanning will also be utilised in the analysis of the natural environment, rather than focusing on the technology itself. The data obtained can often discourage researchers, due to the required processing techniques.…”

“…In the case of the stocktaking of engineering structures, high-accuracy spacing mapping for the purposes of reconstruction or comparison is a very important issue. Publications [ 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ] have thoroughly described the comprehensive use of measuring devices in order to improve the accuracy. What is more, they list and develop appropriate algorithms for the evaluation of structural performance.…”

“…Dynamic responses of a suspension bridge in China have been monitored by means of high sampling-rate robotic total station, as it is described in [19]. Application of different sensors and geodetic measurements for the purpose of short and long term measurements of pedestrian bridge response, as well as a structural health monitoring (SHM) system to assess the behavior of a composite footbridge made of fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) is discussed in [20]. Other example of composite bridge field tests is shown in [21].…”
