Short-range repulsion and isospin dependence in the kaon-nucleon(KN)system

Abstract: The short-range properties of the kaon-nucleon (KN) interaction are studied within the meson-exchange model of the Jülich group. Specifically, dynamical explanations for the phenomenological short-range repulsion, required in this model for achieving agreement with the empirical KN data, are explored. Evidence is found that contributions from the exchange of a heavy scalar-isovector meson ͓a 0 (980)͔ as well as from genuine quark-gluon exchange processes are needed. Taking both mechanisms into account, a satis… Show more

“…Further in Ref. [2] the authors refined this model by replacing the phenomenological σ rep by one-gluon-exchange (OGE), and a satisfactory description of the KN experimental data was gotten. However, in this hybrid model the one-pion exchange is supposed to be absent, which is true on the hadron level, but is not the case in a genuine quark model study, because the quark exchange effect in the single boson exchanges has to be considered.…”

“…Actually, the KN scattering process had aroused particular interest in the past [4,5,6,7,8] and many works have been devoted to this issue based on constituent quark model. But up to now, most of them can not accurately reproduce the KN phase shifts up to L = 3 in a sufficient consistent way.…”

“…In terms of color-spin-flavor matrix elements, this quark-interchange process is equivalent to the elastic process K + p, discussed in Ref. [17]. The most important contributions of H 4 to this channel come from the momentum dependent central and spin-spin (proportional to S 1 ·S 2 ) components, for which…”
