Short-Term and Long-Term Sensitization Differentially Alters the Composition of an Anterograde Transport Complex inAplysia

Abstract: Long-term memory formation requires anterograde transport of proteins from the soma of a neuron to its distal synaptic terminals. This allows new synaptic connections to be grown and existing ones remodeled. However, we do not yet know which proteins are transported to synapses in response to activity and temporal regulation. Here, using quantitative mass spectrometry, we have profiled anterograde protein cargos of a learning-regulated molecular motor protein kinesin (ApKHC1) following short-term sensitization… Show more

“…Understanding how transcriptomic changes in individual neurons modulate specific learning and LTM will be vital for obtaining novel mechanistic insights underlying aging associated cognitive decline and for developing therapeutics. (33,58) and no shock controls was performed on animals at 8 (Age 1), 10 (Age 2), and 12 months (Age 3) of life.…”

“…Following our previously stated protocols (58,62,63) quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analyses were conducted to validate the RNAseq data. After 1h of behavioral training, L7, L11 and R2 neurons were collected from the abdominal ganglia as described in the previous section from all age groups.…”
