“…However, supplementation of Si has shown an ameliorative role in canola and camelina genotypes under drought compared to NS (Tables 2-3). Results have revealed that growth attributes, including shoot and root length, shoot and root fresh weight, and shoot root dry weight were increased by (23, 13, 34, 10, 23, 20, and 20%) in canola and (30,19,32,9,20,18, and 25%) in camelina, respectively, as compared to NS. Though, the highest increase in growth attributes was shown in the treatment where Si was foliar applied @ 4.0 mM as compared to 6.0 mM and 2.0 mM.…”

“…Silicon applications can ameliorate the negative impacts of abiotic stresses in plants by acting as a biochemical arbitrator activating hypersensitive reactions in the plant [28]. Its applications may lead to the polymerization of the cell wall and reparation of the cell membrane to minimize electrolyte leakage [29,30], and uphold the photosynthetic e ciency by improving the quantum productivity of functional leaf area and photosystem II [31,32]. According to reports, some cultivars of the Gramineae family that are drought-tolerant can deposit Si in endodermal tissues under drought stress [33,34].…”

“…In addition to the expression of aquaporin genes, the content of aquaporin proteins is also influenced by silicon. In rapeseed plants under drought stress, silicon application promotes the expression of BnPIP1 , BnPIP2-1-7 and BnTIP1;1 and the accumulation of aquaporins ( Gao et al., 2006 ; Saja-Garbarz et al., 2022 ). These findings show that water channel protein transport activity can be regulated at the post-transcriptional level.…”

“…The issue addressed in this study is all the more important because according to specialists’ predictions, the coming decades will bring unavoidable alterations in the interactive effects of abiotic and biotic stresses on plants due to global climate changes ( Surówka et al., 2020 ). The results derived from research conducted on the above-ground parts of oilseed rape plants reveal that, despite being regarded as a weak silicon accumulator, silicon supplementation holds substantial significance ( Saja-Garbarz et al., 2021 , 2022 ). This supplementation exerts a positive influence on the regulation of water management and aids in alleviating the effects of oxidative stress in oilseed rape plants.…”
