Silicone containing copolymers: Synthesis, properties and applications

Abstract: A comprehensive survey of the recent developments on the synthesis, properties and applications of silicone containing copolymers is provided. Influence of (−R 2 Si−O−) backbone composition on the physicochemical properties of silicone copolymers, such as thermal transitions, solubility parameter and surface tension is discussed. Preparation and properties of well-defined α,ω-reactive organofunctionally terminated (telechelic) silicone oligomers and their utilization in the preparation of a wide range of block… Show more

“…Silicone-urethanes 1 are specific class of polymers that are characterized by excellent mechanical properties of polyurethanes while having certain features specific for silicones, like low surface-free energy or semi-permeation ability. Because of those unique characteristics, silicone-urethanes, specifically moisturecured, have been tested widely as specialty coatings, elastomers for medical applications, or semi-permeation membranes.…”

“…[ 32 ] Its synthesis by hydrolysis of the corresponding tert -butyl-or trimethylsilyl-protected precursors, which in turn are obtained by group transfer polymerization, has been proposed. [ 33 ] However, it must be pointed out that the hydrolysis of PDMS-b -poly( tert-butyl acrylate) (PDMS-b -P t BA) by p -toluene sulfonic acid or NaI/Me 3 SiCl resulted in either scission of the PDMS block or incomplete deprotection.…”
