Simple Approach to Wafer-Scale Self-Cleaning Antireflective Silicon Surfaces

Abstract: A simple approach to wafer-scale self-cleaning antireflective hierarchical silicon structures is demonstrated. By employing the KOH etching and silver catalytic etching, pyramidal hierarchical structures were generated on the crystalline silicon wafer, which exhibit strong antireflection and superhydrophobic properties after fluorination. Furthermore, a flexible superhydrophobic substrate was fabricated by transferring the hierarchical Si structure to the NOA 63 film with UV-assisted imprint lithography. This … Show more

“…Deposition of scale due to entrapped oxygen increases corrosion. When the surface of any pipeline or water-using systems becomes scaled, this insulating scale reduces the efficiency of the system, increases fuel requirements and maintenance [58][59][60][61] . Therefore, there is an ever increasing demand for effectively scale prevention/elimination technique, not only economically, but to insure the minimum environmental pollution attainable.…”

“…Barrett and Parsons (1998) investigated the effect of MW on calcium carbonate (CaCO3) by suppressing nucleation and increasing the rate of crystal growth, and they observed scale reduction 63 . The hexagonally structured of MW molecule cluster won't allow the bonding of minerals to it and removes scaling from pipes and won't allow new scaling to take effect 23,27,59,61,64,65 .…”

“…If the scale is patchy, the differential aeration between the clean and scaled surface facilitates the built up of a corrosion cell. To prevent scale formation several nonchemical methods of water treatment that are based on permanent magnetic, electromagnetic, electric, electrostatic, ultra-sonic, radiation have been introduced [54][55][56][57]. One of the promising applications of MWT is to suppress water-scale deposition on the inner surface of boilers, heat exchangers and pipelines.…”

“…MFs in appropriate spatial and intensity conditions can modulate the turbulence in the fluid. Magnetically structured water can remove scaling from water distribution system and also prevents new scaling [54][55][56][57]. In agriculture and farming, magnetized water for irrigation can save irrigation water [58].…”
