Simple, Robust, and Plasticizer-Free Iodide-Selective Sensor Based on Copolymerized Triazole-Based Ionic Liquid

Abstract: Novel solid contact iodide selective electrodes based on covalently attached 1,2,3 triazole ionic liquid (IL) were prepared and investigated in this study. Triazole-based IL moieties were synthesized using click chemistry and were further copolymerized with lauryl methacrylate via a simple one step free radical polymerization to produce a "self-plasticized" copolymer. The mechanical properties of the copolymer are suitable for the fabrication of plasticizer-free ion-selective membrane electrodes. We demonstrat… Show more

“…Figure 5 also demonstrates that in addition to providing ion exchange functionality, the IL AQ5 used induces 130 selectivity for diclofenac obviating the need for an additional ionophore, normally present in ISE membranes. This represents a further simplification of the ISE construct [20][21][22].…”

“…Also, the reported toxicity of the commercially used plasticizers to the environment will have many drawbacks in the future, especially the pollution of the environment by these highly toxic chemicals. (19) Self-plasticizing polymeric membranes are emerging as alternatives to curb the problems of leaching and the utilization of plasticizers. Many types of polymeric membranes have been explored as self-plasticizing polymeric membranes for the fabrication of sensors to avoid the utilization of plasticizers.…”
