Due to functional communication difficulties, children with autism are unable to freely communicate their needs and respond to social interactions. It has been demonstrated that the learning of communication skills alleviates the challenges caused by communication impairments. With the use of Augmentative Alternative Communication technologies, it is yet unknown how to develop the communication abilities of children with autism more successfully. During the preparatory phase of this research, a literature search was undertaken to build a instructional teaching plan by integrating the characteristics of the iPad application and the Picture Exchange Communication System teaching process. In the experimental phase, a cross-behavioral multi-baseline design was utilized to empirically demonstrate the communication behaviors pertaining primarily to expressing needs and addressing problems in a single subject. There was an increase in the number of subjectsautonomous declarations of needs and responses to questions after the intervention. The maintenance impact of the intervention was greater for the former than for the latter. The number of independent replies to questions was more than the number of needs expressed. Based on the study's findings and the subject's performance in the intervention training, the iPad application Yuudee is beneficial for enhancing the communication behaviors of children with autism, and the instructional use should be tailored to the subject's individual circumstances to develop specific instructional programs. The creation of appropriate application software should adhere to the cognitive rules of children with autism, from simple to complex, with treatments at each developmental stage.

To survive and thrive in a dynamic and complex competitive environment riddled with crises, manufacturing firms need to enhance their crises preparedness. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of development of human capital competencies on crises preparedness in manufacturing firms within the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM). The research adopted the positivism approach as the research philosophy and utilized descriptive correlational research design. The study population consisted of 783 chief executive officers from the KAM where a sample of 292 was drawn using stratified random sampling technique. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaire whereas descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to perform data analysis. Descriptive statistics focused on relative frequency distribution, means and standard deviation while inferential statistics included ordinal logistic regression. The study results are presented in form of table and numerical measures with descriptions. The results indicate that development of human capital competencies was a significant predictor of crises preparedness of manufacturing firms (β = 1.025, p < 0.05). The study concludes that development of human capital competencies is vital for the crises preparedness of the manufacturing firms in Kenya. The study recommends to corporate leaders to continually invest in human capital to create a learning organization in harmony with their companies’ purpose, intent, mission and objectives.

Cloning and expression analysis of Aerenchyma development related ShRBOH1 gene in Saussurea inversa Raab-Straube

Saussurea inversa Raab-Straube is a typical alpine plant with well-developed aerenchyma as its most representative structural feature. It has important theoretical significance for investigating the adaptive mechanisms of alpine plants to the environment through studying the formation and development of aerenchyma in S. inversa. In this study, the aerenchyma development-related gene ShRBOH1 (GenBank accession number OP727799) was cloned from S. inversa by RT-PCR with RACE technology. Sequence analysis showed that the cDNA of ShRBOH1 was 2,158 bp in length, which contained an open reading frame of 2,031 bp encoding 676 amino acids. Subcellular localization prediction showed that the ShRBOH1 protein was located in the cytoplasmic membrane, which was consistent with the localization of the NADPH protein. Comparison of homology amino acid sequence indicated that ShRBOH1 had higher similarity with CcRBOH1 of Cynara cardunculus L.. The qRT-PCR analysis showed that the ShRBOH1 gene was expressed in roots, stems and leaves, and the expression level in stems was significantly lower than in other tissues; the expression of the ShRBOH1 gene was down-regulated under UV stress, up-regulated under cold stress, and first up-regulated, then down-regulated and finally up-regulated under hypoxia stress. By comparing the changes in reactive oxygen species (ROS) content under the three kinds of stresses, the results showed that the changes were significant only under hypoxic stress and were positively correlated with the expression of ShRBOH1. It is hypothesized that ShRBOH1 positively regulates the formation of aerenchyma by ROS mediation, suggesting that the aerenchyma is mainly an important structure for adapting to hypoxia stress in alpine environments.
