Abstract:This work contributes to the simulation, modeling, and characterization of nonlinear elastic bending behavior within the framework of geometrically nonlinear rod models. These models often assume a linear constitutive bending behavior, which is not sufficient for some complex flexible slender structures. In general, nonlinear elastic behavior often coexists with inelastic behavior. In this work, we incorporate the inelastic deformation into the rod model using reference curvatures. We present an algorithmic ap… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
