Simulation of the potential distribution of rare and endangered Satyrium species in China under climate change

Abstract: Satyrium is an endangered and rare genus of plant that has various pharmacodynamic functions. In this study, optimized MaxEnt models were used in analyzing potential geographical distributions under current and future climatic conditions (the 2050s and 2070s) and dominant environmental variables influencing their geographic distribution. The results provided reference for implementation of long-term conservation and management approaches for the species. The results showed that the area of the total suitable h… Show more

“…This data-driven approach utilizes collected distribution points to analyze the ecological preferences of a species [17], quantified as a probability representing the species' habitat preference. MaxEnt models have become increasingly prevalent in recent years and find widespread application in various fields, including pest and disease control, the assessment of species invasions [18], medicinal plant studies [19], and the conservation of endangered species [20,21]. One of the key advantages of the MaxEnt model is its ability to yield accurate predictions even when species distribution information is incomplete and when correlations between climate and environmental factors are unclear.…”

“…Satyrium yunnanense is a native species of China distributed in South West Sichuan, North West and Central Yunnan (IPNI 2024). The geographical distribution of Satyrium was mainly influenced by environmental variables, in current climatic situation the suitable habitat area for S. yunnanense was higher than S. nepalense in the context of China (Ouyang et al 2022). Orchids with a limited number of fungi have restricted distribution while orchids that associate with a large number of fungi or with fungi have a broad distribution (Waud et al 2016;Davis et al 2015;and Tesitelova et al 2015).…”

“…Current species distribution models are extensively used for endangered plant and animal conservation [ 19 , 20 ], species invasion [ 21 , 22 ], and for studying the effects of environmental change on species distribution and diversity patterns [ 23 ]. Commonly used species distribution models include Bioclim [ 24 ], Domain [ 25 ], Garp [ 26 ], and MaxEnt.…”
