Simulation Secondary Electron Emission of a Hopped FED

Abstract

Hopping field emission display (HopFED) which is based on secondary electron emission is a novel structure of field emission display [1]. Compared to the conventional structures, this new type has several advantages. The brightness, the luminance uniformity and the profile of the spot on the screen have been improved. To simplify the fabrication process, the gate electrode is deposited on the bottom surface of the hop glass plate, as shown in Fig. 1. In order to let more electrons get through the hop and obtain a well spot on the anode, the structure in Fig. 1 is optimized (Fig.3) in this paper. The main difference between the two structures is shown in Fig.5. In the normal triode structure, the gate electrode is taken as a whole part (Fig.5a) while it was divided into two parts (Fig5b) in the optimized structure.
