Simultaneous determination of opiates by circular dichroism

Abstract: waters collected from a major lead-zinc mine in northern Idaho show varied As(III)/As(V) ratios as shown in Table 111. It is interesting to note that a lower As(III)/As(V) ratio appears to correlate with a higher total arsenic content in the water. This seems to suggest that leaching of arsenic and perhaps other metals may be related to the redox environment Circular dlchrolsm spectropolarlmetry has been successfully applled to the simultaneous determlnatlon of morphine, codelne, thebaine, and noscaplne In sel… Show more

“…For the other mixtures however the determinations were done by using a simple curve fitting program in which weighted contributions from the standard curves were added in order to simulate the experimental curve (7). Once again the agreement between the prepared and calculated data is excellent.…”

“…CD measurements were made as before with a JASCO-500A/DP-500N automatic spectropolarimeter/data processor combination (7). Instrument parameters were arranged to give the optimum signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio.…”

“…However, the technique can be used in exactly the same manner as is conventional absorption spectroscopy, with the differential absorption following its own analog of Beer's law. The CD spectrum of a given compound can be used for diagnostic purposes, easily permitting the identification of morphine, codeine, thebaine, or noscapine (23). Being proportional to concentration, CD intensities can be used to evaluate the concentration of drug substances in pharmaceutical dosage forms (24).…”

“…For instance, there are published methods for determination of alkaloids in Papaver somniferum and thebaine using HPLC with chemiluminescence detection [14][15][16], capillary electrophoresis analysis [17,18], infrared and Raman spectroscopy of alkaloids [19], infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopic determination [20] and configurational analysis of thebaine [21]. There are also other methods described in the literature, such as oxidative colorimetric analysis [22], determination of opiates by circular dichroism [23], colorimetric determination [24], TLC analysis of opiate alkaloids and drugs [25,26], ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) analysis of thebaine [27], FTIR spectroscopy of opiates and chemometric analysis [28], differential pulse polarography [29] and even a voltammetric analysis of thebaine [30]. (6) and noscapine (7) T a b l e 2 [31], gas chromatography-ion trap mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis [32], liquid chromatographicatmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometric analysis [33] or HPLC analysis [34,35], GC-MS analysis [36][37][38][39].…”
