Simultaneous Determination of the Combined Drugs of Ceftriaxone Sodium, Metronidazole, and Levofloxacin in Human Urine by High‐Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract: The proposed method was sensitive, accurate, and rapid. This work may provide a reference for clinical rational drug use and methodology for the pharmacokinetics study of the combined drugs.

“…Sun et al . () described an HPLC‐UV method for analyzing ceftriaxone and other antibiotics (metronidazole and levofloxacin) in human urine. For the robust analysis of these drugs, protein precipitation with acetonitrile was first performed before injection into the HPLC column to maintain the stability of cephalosporins based on the polarity of ceftriaxone.…”

“…Several HPLC‐UV methods can be found in the literature for the estimation of CFT either alone or combined with other drugs in biological fluids (Al‐Rawithi, Hussein, Raines, Al‐Showaier, & Kurdi, ; Bowman, Aravind, Miceli, & Kauffman, ; Granich & Krogstad, ; Jungbluth & Jusko, ; Sun, Wang, & Ge, ; Verdier et al, ). However, only one reported LC‐MS method (in press) was found for the simultaneous determination of CFT, metronidazole and hydroxymetronidazole in plasma (Ongas et al, ).…”

“…[1][2][3][4] Similar to most antibiotics, the drug has concentration dependent bacteria killing properties. [6][7][8][9] This results in the undesired presence of the antibiotic in surface waters, wastewaters, sediments and ground water worldwide. 5 Furthermore, the drug undergoes limited metabolism in the human body.…”
