Simultaneous Electrochemical Detection of Pb and Cd by Carbon Paste Electrodes Modified by Activated Clay

Abstract: Calcinated and acidified clay modified carbon graphite electrode was deployed in the simultaneous evaluation of traces of Pb2+ and Cd2+ in solution. After 5 minutes of accumulation in the circuit, the sensitivity of the electrode was evaluated in a solution of Na2SO4 (0.1 M) by square wave voltammetry on the one hand with Pb (II) and on the other hand with Cd (II). Several experimental conditions such as the composition of the carbon clay paste, the effect of preconcentration time, the sweeping speed, concentr… Show more

“…Certainly, with the role of the electronic vacancies of Pb( ii ) and Cd( ii ), a dative covalent bond with a tetragonal crystal structure 47 of Bi 24 Fe 2 O 39 can form. With a spacing distance between 0.161 and 0.280 nm of the synthesized nanoparticle, Pb( ii ) and Cd( ii ) having ionic radii of 0.15 nm and 0.095 nm, 48 respectively, will intercalate during the accumulation period. Later, during the voltammetric analysis, the metal ions will be reduced with the applied potential to their corresponding atoms.…”

“…In voltammetry, the working electrode can be modified to improve the performance and lower the detection limit. Some of the modifier materials can be used to analyze Pb, such as activated clay, biopolymer lignin, and crown ether (8)(9)(10). Crown ether can bind metals and form stable complexes because they have a cavity in the middle so that able to trap metal ion in the appropriate size (11).…”
