Simultaneous placement of an interpositional free gingival graft with nonsubmerged implant placement

Abstract: PurposeVarious surgical techniques target achieving adequate keratinized tissue around dental implants; however, these techniques are usually performed before implant placement or upon the exposure of submerged implants. The aim of this case report is to describe a simultaneous placement of an interpositional free gingival graft (iFGG) with that of nonsubmerged implants in a patient lacking keratinized tissue and to assess the long-term outcome of this grafted gingiva.MethodsA wedge-shaped free gingnival graft… Show more

“…This procedure can be performed prior to the placement of the implant, during the second step of implant surgery or after the placement of the definitive prosthesis [29]. Grafting prior to implant placement or during the second phase of surgery can result in a longer wait time before [31]. The patients cannot use the prosthesis during the healing period of the graft, which can have an impact on physiological functions, especially in patients suffering pain and discomfort through various surgical stages [31].…”

“…This procedure can be performed previous to implant placement, during the second stage surgery in implants or after placing of the final prosthesis [ 19 ]. Free gingival graft previous to implant placement or during the second stage surgery can result in a greater waiting time for realization of rehabilitation treatment [ 21 ]. The patient cannot wear this prosthesis during healing graft period and this could have an impact on their physiological functions, especially in patients who suffer from pain and discomfort through several surgical stages [ 21 ].…”

“…Dental implant, free gingival graft, gingival recessions implant area, that effects the maintenance of periodontal health. 4 If an adequate zone of keratinized tissue around the implant long term implant health, plaque control and aesthetics can be improved. 5,6 Peri implant plastic surgery approaches are methods that can contribute to the development of healthy peri implant structures able 78 30 sites of 15 patients (7 males and 5 females, aged 35 to 65 years; median: 50 years) participated in this split mouth study based on the following inclusion criteria: age≥18 years good systemic and periodontal health, similar bilateral lack of keratinized tissue in implants area in mandibular region.…”
