Abstract: Vancomycin and norvancomycin have diminished antibacterial efficacy due to acquired or intrinsic resistance from mutations in the terminal dipeptide of lipid II in Gram-positive bacteria or failure to penetrate into the periplasm in Gram-negative bacteria.
