Single crystal growth and enhancing effect of glycine on characteristic properties of bis-thiourea zinc acetate crystal

Abstract: A single crystal of glycine-doped bis-thiourea zinc acetate (G-BTZA) with a dimension of 15 × 6 × 4 mm3 has been grown using the slow solution evaporation technique. The structural parameters of the crystals were determined using the single crystal XRD technique. The increase in optical transparency of the doped BTZA crystal was ascertained in the range of 200 to 900 nm using UV–visible spectral analysis. The improved optical band gap of the G-BTZA crystal is found to be 4.19 eV, and vital optical constants ha… Show more

“…It definitely limits the wastage of crystal material and favors the commercial fabrication of various devices [24][25][26]. The intrinsic (heat of formation, interatomic bonding, internal lattice energy and Debye temperature) [27] and extrinsic (solvent inclusions, defects, impurity vacancy, dislocations and low angle grain boundaries) [28] factors are the decisive parameters influencing hardness of a material. The Vickers microhardness test has been employed to explore the effect of Nd 3+ on the hardness of ZTS crystal using a Shimadzu HMV-2T microhardness analyzer.…”

“…The enhanced SHG efficiency originates due to several factors of glycine dopant, namely (a) noncentrosymmetric symmetry, (b) high dipole moment and (c) enhanced charge transfer over the donor-acceptor network [32]. In the literature, it is reported that doping of glycine has constructive impact on SHG efficiency of bis-thiourea cadmium formate [27] and bis-thiourea zinc acetate [33] crystals. The observed enhancement in SHG efficiency of KDP crystal due to glycine dopant is superior to that facilitated by other amino acids namely L-aspartic acid (1.06) [15], L-histidine (0.93) [18], L-arginine (1.77) and L-alanine (1.67) [20].…”

“…higher temperature reflects the presence of space charge, ionic, orientation and electronic charge polarization due to the impedance offered by the parallel plate capacitor to the motion of charge carriers between the electrode and it is attributed to the perfection of the MADNBA crystal [42][43][44]. The value of dielectric constant saturates and attains a constant value at higher frequency and it reveals the diminishing nature of the exhibited polarizations with the introduction of dipole rotation.…”
