“…An earlier Cochrane review showed that SIMS remained quicker to perform than standard midurethral sling (relative risk, À1.98; 95% confidence interval, À2.68 to À1.2), but the margin of difference (<2 min) was too small to be clinically important. 9 Recent systemic reviews have described a trend towards higher rates of de novo urgency and/or worsening of pre-existing urgency following SIMS but the difference did not reach statistical significance, perhaps due to the small groups. 22 In the current study, this was observed more with the EFA technique compared to the other two techniques, which utilized a transobturator route.…”

“…In contrast to the traditional standard midurethral sling, the SIMS techniques utilize a single vaginal insertion approach and avoid the blind passage of the trocars through the retropubic area and the groin/adductor muscles. 9 This less invasive approach is thought to reduce complications, including bladder/bowel and vascular injury and groin and thigh pain, with a shorter hospital stay, less postoperative pain, and early resumption of daily activities. 10 All of these factors are likely to have a positive impact on the wider community and economy.…”

“…This review addresses a separate question to other existing reviews, although the question may be related to the existing reviews of minimally invasive slings (Ogah 2009) and single incision slings (Jeffery 2010), from which data may be extracted and analysed; data may also be extracted and analysed from other existing reviews including, for example, open retropubic colposuspension (Lapitan 2012), pelvic floor muscle training (Dumoulin 2010), periurethral injection (Kirchin 2012) and traditional sling operations (Rehman 2011).…”
