Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotube Based Real‐Time Organophosphate Detector

Abstract: A novel single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) based biosensor for real-time detection of organophosphate has been developed. Horizontally aligned SWNTs are assembled to desirable electrodes using AC dielectrophoresis technique. Organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH) immobilized on the SWNTs by nonspecific binding triggers enzymatic hydrolysis of organophosphates (OPs), such as paraoxon, consequently causing a detectable change in the conductance of the SWNTs. The conductance change is found to be correlated to the co… Show more

“…Enzyme/CNT-based biosensors have been used to detect not only small biomolecules but also environmental pollutants (e.g., organophosphate (OP) pesticides [32,33]). The mechanism of this biosensor for detecting OPs is based on inhibiting enzyme activity by these toxic chemicals.…”

“…With different immobilization approaches for one or two enzyme system, various enzyme/ CNT based biosensors have been developed for detection of OPs [33]. Ju and coworkers reported a sensitive, fast, cheap flow injection biosensor for an organophosphorus insecticide based on immobilizing acetylcholinesterase (AChE) by binding covalently to a cross-linked chitosan-MWCNT composite [34].…”

“…The details of the device fabrication have been described elsewhere [27]. In brief, a trace amount of commercial single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) powder with 95% purity were dispersed in deionized water with 1 wt% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), followed by ultra-sonication and centrifugation to obtain well dispersed SWNT.…”
