Single x-ray transmission system for bone mineral density determination

Abstract: Bones are the support of the body. They are composed of many inorganic compounds and other organic materials that all together can be used to determine the mineral density of the bones. The bone mineral density is a measure index that is widely used as an indicator of the health of the bone. A typical manner to evaluate the quality of the bone is a densitometry study; a dual x-ray absorptiometry system based study that has been widely used to assess the mineral density of some animals' bones. However, despite … Show more

“…Thus, each pixel is associated with a number representing the color of in the area or the intensity of gray tones. In this way, the image is converted into a set of numbers and can be visualized on a computer screen or be printed for analysis 12,13 . To date, DRx has not been used for analysis of mineral and bone disorder (MBD) in experimental models of CKD.…”

“…Thus, scientists have studied the possibility of developing a new, affordable and reliable single X-ray absorption system. The method is to use a single X-ray source, X-ray sensor and computer platform, which together, in general, will allow you to calculate the mineral density of the bone (Jimenez-Mendoza et al, 2011). Known methods of computed tomography, digital radiography, and magnetic resonance are sufficiently sensitive to study bone residual material and to determine the causes of death of animals (Amadasi et al, 2014).…”

“…To our best knowledge, there is no study yet conducted on a large sample of the Chinese population with healthy controls that directly relates dietary iron intake to OP. In the present study, the BMD was measured by using radiographic absorptiometry (RA), which has been proven to be a portable, versatile and accurate measurement instrument . It has been long used as a pre‐screening tool in developing countries, as it enables the diagnosis to be ruled out in half of the population at a low cost .…”

“…In the present study, the BMD was measured by using radiographic absorptiometry (RA), which has been proven to be a portable, versatile and accurate measurement instrument. 15 It has been long used as a pre-screening tool in developing countries, as it enables the diagnosis to be ruled out in half of the population at a low cost. 16 Thus, this cross-sectional study aimed to examine the association between dietary iron intake and phalangeal OP in the aforementioned population group.…”
