Theoretical research and specific surface area analysis of nitrogen adsorption indicated that a lot of structural micropores exist in sepiolite minerals fibers. However, the microporous size, existing form, and the distribution relationship between microporous structures were not proved yet. In this paper, the section TEM samples of nanofibers were prepared on the basis of the metal embedding and cutting technique, and the inner structure of sepiolite nanofibers was observed by TEM. The results showed that sepiolite fibers have multiplayer structure similar to concentric circles, and many micropores with the size of about 2-5 nm are normal and parallel to the c-axis. The reason for the previously mentioned phenomenon was explained by using BET analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis results.

Sepiolite as catalyst carrier material, now commonly used in low temperature, for high temperature applications was very rare. ZrO 2 /sepiolite precursor was prepared by Chemical precipitation method, catalyst coating material was prepared at 600˚C, the samples were aged at 1000˚C. The powders with and without aging were characterized by means of BET (BET surface area), TG, XRD and SEM. The effect of acidification time on sepiolite surface area and the influences of Lanthanum adding, mass ratio of ZrO2 and sepiolite on the composite properties were studied. The results indicate that after acidification 18h sepiolite surface area up to 148.12 m 2 •g-1. When added 6 Wt.% La, mass ratio of ZrO 2 and sepiolite was 3:2, ZrO 2 / sepiolite catalyst coating composite surface area is maximum, reach to 95.7553 m 2 •g-1 , with the 1000 ˚C aging, the specific surface area still up to 55.7553 m 2 •g-1 , besides, it has good thermal stability. Compared with the specific surface area of sepiolite with high temperature treatment, this catalyst carrier coating composite improved significantly.

The First Step in the Production of Fiber‐Diopside Crystal

In this study, the use of sepiolite, formed as fibers in nature, in the production of fiber‐diopside crystals and its effect on crystallization were researched. Sintering process was performed for both pellet and powdered samples. Grain–grain interactions in pellets were effective in diopside crystallization during sintering. It was determined that poor grain–grain interactions and grains with pores formed local glassy phase and crystallization. Dendritic structure was largely formed than eutectic structure within the pellets. The prevention of dendritic growth of crystals by determining the cooling interval could yield longer fiber crystals.
